                             The Legend Returns

                          Version 1.0 Release Notes

 **************
 256 COLOR MODE
 **************
 Loderunner requires 2 megabytes of EMS (expanded memory) and a VESA
 driver (if your video card does not have built in VESA support) to
 run in 256 colors. There is an automatic VESA detection utility in
 the INSTALL program which will try to load a VESA driver if your card
 does not support VESA through its own hardware.

 Since Loderunner requires 2 MB of expanded memory to run in 256 clor
 mode you will need to have 4 MB of RAM in your machine and allocate
 2 MB's of EMS. If you are unsure how to do this try the bootdisk maker
 available through the INSTALL program. The following is an example of
 what the first two lines in your CONFIG.SYS would look like in order to
 support 2 MB of EMS.

 If you are using MS-DOS 5.0 which is the minimum system requirement the
 first two lines would be as follows:
 DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
 DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE RAM 2048

 VESA SUPPORT

 If you follow the troubleshooting steps below and a VESA driver will
 still not work with your system you may need to contact the manufacturer
 of your video card to obtain the correct driver.

 TROUBLESHOOTING
 ***************

 PROBLEM:

 When I start Loderunner it looks like it is black and white.

 SOLUTION:

 Make sure that there is 2MB of EMS available.
 Make sure a VESA driver is loaded.

 PROBLEM:

 The INSTALL program won't load a VESA driver for me.

 SOLUTION:

 Try switching to the VESA subdirectory on disk 5 and see if there
 is a subdirectory for your card. If there is, go to that subdirectory
 try running the VESA driver. It will usually have a .COM or .EXE after
 the name of the driver.

 NOTE: Even if your video card does not match one of the subdirectories
       you still may be able to load one of the drivers. Try the TSENG
       directory first and then go through the others to see if another
       VESA driver will work with your machine.

       If you are connected to an on-line service such as Compuserve or
       Prodigy the manufacturer of your card may have an area there that
       you can download a driver from.

 PROBLEM:

 Now that I know which driver to use what do I do with it?

 SOLUTION:

 You will need to load that driver before running Loderunner, there are
 a few ways to do this as follows.

 1. If your driver is named VESA.EXE, copy it to your game directory
    and type VESA before starting Loderunner

 2. Use the following steps to create a batch file to load the VESA
    driver and start the game.

     1. Change to the game directory.

     2. Type: copy con lr.bat  {press enter}
     3. Type: vesa.exe         {press enter}
     4. Type: loderunn.exe     {press enter}
     5. Press F6               {press enter}

  Another option is to create a bootdisk using the INSTALL program and
  add the VESA.EXE to the last line in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. To do this
  use a Text editor such as MS-DOS 5.0 and above's EDIT utility.

  PROBLEM:

  Sounds and Music aren't playing.

  SOLUTION:

  Go to the game directory and type: setsound

  You will then be prompted to select and test your sound and music card.
  When you select the proper card it will ask if you are ready to test the
  sounds and music, if they do not play correctly go back and change
  your selection.

  Make sure that speakers are connected and that the volume control (if
  any) is adjusted peoperly on your sound card.

  Make sure that sounds and music are not turned off in the game, press
  F1 at the main menu to see how to toggle sounds and music.

  Thanks you for purchasing Loderunner: The Legend Returns, we hope you
  have as much fun playing it as we did making it!
