  1.0 GENERAL SYSTEM CONSIDERATIONS
       ______________________________

o The Pen for OS/2 installation program executes a program
called DCLICK.EXE as part of the installation process if
you have Microsoft Windows** or WIN-OS/2 installed. If
Microsoft Windows or WIN-OS/2 is not operational,
this may hang the system. To recover, press
Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart the computer. Then rename
WINOS2.COM to WINOS2.BAK and reinstall Pen for OS/2.

o If the following error messages are displayed when you
restart your computer with pen installed, press the
Enter key to ignore them. The pen function will
not be effected by the errors. (The instructions
assume that OS/2 is installed on drive C.)

SYS1201: The device driver C:\OS2\BOOT\COM.SYS specified
in the DEVICE statement on line xx of the CONFIG.SYS file
was not installed. Line xx was ignored.

SYS1201: The device driver C:\OS2\MDOS\VCOM.SYS specified
in the DEVICE statement on line yy of the CONFIG.SYS file
was not installed. Line yy was ignored.

Note: So that you are not required to hit the Enter key
you may add the following line to your CONFIG.SYS
file (errors will still be displayed, but the system
                will not pause):
                     PAUSEONERROR=NO

       o Using Telepen
         - The "minimum" NETBIOS requirements for running Telepen
           are:

            COMMANDS = 16
            SESSIONS = 2
            NAMES = 1

These requirements are in addition to any other NETBIOS
requirements for other programs that may be running at
           the same time.

         - Telepen supports up to 256 colors only when transferring
           images.

         - If you are attempting to use Telepen with a 300-baud modem,
or if you want to restrict Telepen to 300-baud operation,
you may need an initialization string. Please refer to your
modem documentation or contact the manufacturer of your
modem for the correct initialization string. You may update
this string in the "Initialization string" field on the Local
           Information window.

         - Your Telepen connection will be broken if you open the
Telepen Dialing Directory window and your computer was
in listening mode when your Telepen connection was
established. You are in listening mode if you have one of
the options on the "Connection" "Listen for partner" menu
           selected.

       o Application Overrides
          - "Adjust input rate" works only for OS/2 programs.
          - "Hide pointer" does not work in the OS/2 System
Editor, or any other Boxed, Lined, or Unlined entry
             fields and windows.

o The Calibrate menu choice is located in the Open menu
of the device pop-up menu. To calibrate your pen, draw
the Check Mark gesture over the Pen object in the Devices
folder. If Calibrate is available, Open appears. Tap on
the arrow next to Open; then on Calibrate. Note: This
is only true for devices that provide calibration.

o If you experience a problem while trying to play a sound
file, the problem may be that your audio card is using the
same interrupt as your pen device. The symptom of this
is that you try to play a sound file by using the Digital
Audio player or other application, and a message is displayed
indicating that the audio card is being used by a DOS* or
Microsoft Windows program. To avoid this problem, change
the interrupt level of the audio card to an unused interrupt
         level.

o If you have an IBM ThinkPad 730T and start the system
with your pen near the display, Pen for OS/2 will not
function properly. If this occurs, shutdown and restart
         your computer to use Pen.

o When "Enable Edit Window" is selected on the Edit Window
page of the Customization object, only one Edit Window
will be activated at a time for an application. If you
write into a window and bring up an Edit Window,
writing into any other window of that application will
result in the text being recognized directly into that
window instead of activating another Edit Window.

o The Pen Toolbar special keys (Shift, Alt, and Ctrl)
do not work in an OS/2 window, or any application
running in an OS/2 window. They do work in
Presentation Manager, DOS, and WIN-OS/2 windows.

o If you use System Setup to change the type of mouse
you want to use, OS/2 will add a new series of
statements to your CONFIG.SYS file. One of these
new statements will look like the following:
            DEVICE=C:\OS2\BOOT\MOUSE.SYS
(assuming that OS/2 is installed on the C drive).
If you restart your computer with this statement
in your CONFIG.SYS file, your system will hang.
To avoid this problem, do the following:
         1. Edit your CONFIG.SYS file.
         2. Place the characters REM at the beginning
of the DEVICE statement described above.
         3. Search your CONFIG.SYS file for the following:
            <DDLOCATION>\MOUSE.SYS
(<DDLOCATION> is the location of your Pen for OS/2
             device driver, for example IBM750P).
         4. When you find the line described in step 3, move it
to the location above the line that you placed the
REM in front of in step 2.
         5. Copy the parameters listed on the line with REM
up to the line just moved.
         6. Select Shut down from the LaunchPad to shutdown
            and restart your computer.

o To run applications, written in VXREXX** that access a
DB2 database, make sure you have the WATCOM**
         VXREXX 2.1c patch installed.

  2.0 HANDWRITING TIPS
       _________________

o If spaces in your Lined and Unlined handwriting do not appear
to be recognized correctly, try allowing more space between
         your words.

o If two written characters in your lined and unlined
handwriting appear to be recognized as one character,
make sure that you are not connecting the characters.

  3.0 OS/2 APPLICATION COMPATIBILITY
       ______________________________

      o Application Notes

        - Arts & Letters

Gestures drawn inside the drawing area may not be
displayed for the amount of time specified in the
"Gesture recognition display time" setting of the
          Customization object.

        - AutoCAD** for OS/2

AutoCAD for OS/2 might make a copy of a portion of the
Handwriting Pad, Pop-Up Keyboard, or Pen Tool Bar
graphics if these tools are placed over the drawing area.
To avoid this problem, position the tools away from the
          drawing area.

        - CMMouse*

Do not use the Pop-Up Keyboard to input into CMMouse
pop-up boxes; however, you can use the Pop-Up Keyboard
to input into a 3270-emulation screen even when
          CMMouse is active.

To assign the CMMouse right button to mouse button 2
on the pen, change all BUTTON RIGHT statements in
the button definition files (.BDF) to BUTTON MIDDLE
          statements.

        - Lotus 123G** for OS/2

If the Pen Tool Bar is positioned over the application
window, double-tapping on the Pen Tool Bar title-bar
icon might not close the Pen Tool Bar. To avoid this
problem, either select the Close choice from the Pen
Tool Bar title-bar icon, or position the Pen Tool Bar
away from the title bar and the menu bar of the
          application.

        - Lotus Freelance Graphics** for OS/2

If the Pen Tool Bar is positioned over the application
window, double-tapping on the Pen Tool Bar icon might
not close the Pen Tool Bar. To avoid this problem, select
the Close choice from the Pen Tool Bar title-bar icon.

        - Lotus Notes** for OS/2

If you assign the MAXIMIZE or RESTORE command or the
MINIMIZE or RESTORE command to a gesture, the action
will be performed on the outside window even if the
gesture is drawn over the inside window.

        - Microsoft Word** for OS/2

The system-supplied commands that can be assigned to a
gesture might not be functional in this application.

The options on the system menu might not be functional
when using the pen or the mouse.

        - Ami Pro** for OS/2

The palette of buttons at the bottom of an Ami Pro client
window cannot be accessed by tapping with the pen. You
must touch and pause to emulate a Mouse Button 1 click
          correctly.

        - DeScribe** for OS/2

When using the Edit Window, the DeScribe window area will
not repaint until the Edit Window is closed.

4.0 OS/2 WARP BONUSPACK APPLICATION COMPATIBILITY
       ______________________________________________

      o Application Notes

        - New Letter

When using the New Letter program, you cannot enter text
by writing into the window when you are in drawing mode.

  5.0 WIN-OS/2 APPLICATION COMPATIBILITY
       __________________________________

o If you change your mouse settings to left-handed (using
the Mouse object in the System Setup folder), then a pen
tap in a WIN-OS/2 full-screen session is equivalent to
a mouse button 2 click. To avoid this problem, change
        the mouse settings to right-handed.

      o Application Notes

        - Harvard Graphics** for Windows

Harvard Graphics for Windows might make a copy of a
portion of the Handwriting Pad, Pop-Up Keyboard, or Pen
Tool Bar graphics if these tools are placed over the drawing
area. If this occurs, position the tools away from the drawing
          area.

        - When using PROCOMM PLUS** for Windows, you cannot use the
Edit Window when entering text with the pen. To avoid this
problem, you need to disable the Edit Window. To do this,
remove the check mark from the "Enable Edit Window" check
box on the Edit Window page of the Customization object.

  6.0 DOS APPLICATION COMPATIBILITY
       _____________________________

o In DOS window applications, which process relative mouse
motion (rather than absolute mouse position), if the DOS
setting MOUSE_EXCLUSIVE_ACCESS is "On", the pen cannot
be used to emulate a mouse.
