0.0 Prerequisites
-----------------
It is recommended to install the latest IDE/DASD Driver package when using
the Quatech USB to serial driver to transfer large amount of data at high
speeds (115200 bps and above). Older IDE/DASD drivers may not use optimal
DMA/UDMA data transfer setting resulting in high CPU utilization for large
disk data transfers. This may result in a loss of connection error.

1.0 Introduction
----------------
The USBQSER.EXE driver package provides support for USB to Serial Adapters
manufactured by Quatech Inc. on the OS/2 Operating System.

The USBQSER.EXE file contains the following 4 files in a self-extracting
compressed format:
        - README.TXT The file you are reading
        - USBQSER.SYS OS/2 Quatech USB to Serial Driver
        - USBQSER.DDP Device Driver Profile
        - TSTUSBC.EXE USB Driver presence test

2.0 Quatech USB to Serial Adapter Support
-----------------------------------------
The USBQSER.EXE driver package includes the OS/2 Quatech USB to Serial
Driver (USBQSER.SYS) that supports the following USB to Serial Adapters:
SSU-100 1 port USB to RS-232 serial adapter
DSU-100 2 port USB to RS-232 serial adapter
QSU-100 4 port USB to RS-232 serial adapter
ESU-100 8 port USB to RS-232 serial adapter
HSU-100 16 port USB to RS-232 serial adapter

A maximum data rate of 460800 bps possible for any one port under certain
conditions. However, actual data rates depend on the number of
simultaneously-operating ports and many external factors including the
processing speed of the host computer, the quality and length of cables,
hardware flow control, and whether the data flow is continuous or occurs
in sporadic bursts. A table of typical data rates follows.

Number of
Simultaneously-Operating
Serial Ports Typical Maximum Data Rate
------------------------ -------------------------
        4 115200 bps
        8 57600 to 115200 bps
       16 38400 bps

2.1 Installation Instructions
-----------------------------
2.1.1 To use these USB to Serial Adapter Support files, you must expand
the USBQSER.EXE file into its 4 component files by
      - opening an OS/2 window and
      - changing to the temporary directory where USBQSER.EXE is stored and
      - typing USBQSER at the OS/2 command prompt.
Once the USBQSER.EXE file is expanded, please continue.

2.1.2 At the OS/2 command prompt, enter DDINSTAL to open the Device Driver
      Installation dialog.

2.1.3 Change the Source directory to the directory where the 4 component
files reside by pressing "Change..." button.

2.1.4 Press the "Install..." button to perform the actual installation.
If the USB Driver was not successfully installed on the system you
      will see the message
"... This DDP file did not run."
Please note that you must install the USB Basic Device Support
Package (USBBASIC.EXE) before you install USBQSER.SYS.

2.1.5 Verify that the USQBSER.SYS line is now in the CONFIG.SYS file and
add/change its parameters if necessary. The USBQSER.SYS driver
      accepts 2 CONFIG.SYS line parameters:
/V Verbose mode to display driver information and assigned
                COMn port names.
/N:n n specifies number of ports to be served, n should not
exceed 16; default value is 4 ports.

2.1.6 This completes the installation procedure.
You can install any other USB device drivers and after that
      you must reboot the system.

2.2 Un-Install Instructions
---------------------------
2.2.1 Delete the USBQSER.SYS line from CONFIG.SYS file.

2.2.2 Delete the USBQSER.SYS file from \OS2\BOOT directory.

2.2.3 Shutdown and then reboot system.
