*       GENERAL INFORMATION                                                *
****************************************************************************
The PIIX Bus Master IDE Driver for IBM OS/2 should ONLY be used with versions
2.x or Warp* 3.x of the IBM OS/2 operating system (Production Versions). The
driver included in this package is intended for use on Pentium(tm) processor
based 82430FX platforms ONLY. The driver will auto-identify all the devices
connected to the PIIX IDE interface. Depending on the capabilities of the
devices connected to the system, the driver will initialize the PIIX IDE
interface for bus mastering operation. Only devices identified as bus master
capable (refer to the README.TXT) will be accessed as a bus master; all other
devices (including all ATAPI CD-ROM drives) will be accessed in a PIO-only
fashion. ATAPI CD-ROM drives are handled by the standard filter driver that
comes with OS/2, or is supplied by the device vendor, and runs in standard
PIO mode. Future releases of the PIIX Bus Master IDE driver will allow ATAPI
CD-ROM drives identified as bus master capable to be used as a bus master.

ATAPI tape drives have not been tested with this driver and are not supported
in the current release of this driver.

Proper setting of the ISA speed switch/jumper is required by the driver.
Incorrect settings can result in unreliable system operation. The proper
settings are as follows:

    1. For 90 MHz and above processor speeds (PCI Clock Frequency is 30/33
        MHz), set the ISA speed switch/jumper to 1/4 speed (slow) [PCI Clock
        Frequency/4].

    2. For a 75 MHz processor speed (PCI Clock Frequency is 25 MHz), set the
        ISA speed switch/jumper to 1/3 speed (fast) [PCI Clock Frequency/3].

****************************************************************************
Verifying the installation of the driver and other generic troubleshooting is
discussed in the README.TXT file contained within this package. This section
describes additional issues that are not currently described in the README.TXT
file.

If any of the following problems are encountered, the driver should be
un-installed following the instructions outlined in the README.TXT file.

This section contains more information regarding specific hardware
configurations marked by a plus sign (+) in the TEST INFORMATION section of
this document.

    Issue: The system does not operate reliably or fails to boot when the
                driver is installed.

    Solution:   Un-install the driver.

    Issue: The driver does not support the following fixed disk drives:

                    Maxtor 7245AV
                    Maxtor 71626AP
                    Maxtor 71260AT

    Solution: Do not install the driver in configurations equipped with
                these fixed disk drives.

    Issue: The driver does not support Quantum Maverick drives in DMA
                mode.

    Solution: Force the drive into PIO-mode operation by using PIIXIDE.ADD
                command line parameters in the CONFIG.SYS. For example, if
                this drive is set up as a slave on the primary cable, the
                following command line should be used to load the driver:

                BASEDEV=PIIXIDE.ADD /A:0 /U:1 /!BM

                NOTE: For a description of the command line parameters see the
                      README.TXT file.

    Issue: The driver does not support Maxtor 7850AV and 7840AV drives
                with the multi-sector option enabled.

    Solution: Turn off the multi-sector feature using PIIXIDE.ADD command
                line parameters in the CONFIG.SYS. For example, if the drive
                is the master on the secondary cable, the following command
                line should be used:

                BASEDEV=PIIXIDE.ADD /A:1 /U:0 /!SMS

                NOTE: For a description of the command line parameters see the
                      README.TXT file.

    Issue: The driver does not support the Conner CFS425A drive in DMA
                mode.

    Solution: Force the drive into PIO-mode operation by using PIIXIDE.ADD
                command line parameters in the CONFIG.SYS. For example, if
                this drive is set up as a slave on the primary cable, the
                following command line should be used to load the driver:

                BASEDEV=PIIXIDE.ADD /A:0 /U:1 /!BM

                NOTE: For a description of the command line parameters see the
                      README.TXT file.
