Chinese Editor for English Warp 1.15

"Put the Chinese Editor aside first. How can I view Chinese in English OS/2?"
"Actually, I just tested on my own machine which is a warp-4 one with

  1. Java 1.1.4 installed,
  2. fixpack 5 applied &
  3. COUNTRY=088,F:\OS2\SYSTEM\COUNTRY.SYS & CODEPAGE=950,850 put in config.sys.

THESE PROCEDURES ARE OBTAINED FROM & AVAILABLE IN THE HONG
KONG OS/2 USER GROUP HOMEPAGE.
It works for Big5 codes. You can view Chinese files in E.EXE & EPM.EXE."

"Hey, how many time should I tell you? I use GB codes as well!"
"Oops. Then you should, in step 3, put
  COUNTRY=086,F:\OS2\SYSTEM\COUNTRY.SYS &
  CODEPAGE=1381,850
in config.sys. But in this way you cannot read Big5 codes & vice versa."

"How about surfing the net?"
"Reading Chinese email on MR/2 ICE is possible.
It is more convenient for WWW and BBS. You need not to consider the modification of
the config.sys, just the original setting for English country is OK.
To use Netscape/2, just make sure you set the correct language and fonts and
select the correct document coding.
To use HotJava, select the corresponding character set.
To use Super terminal, STERM, for connecting to Chinese BBS,
simply select the Chinese codepage, 950 or 1381 and the Chinese fonts.
But I experience some problem in using 1381 in STERM."

"I have problems for some applications with this setting.
What should I do without affecting the Chinese Editor?"
"Yes, I also have some problems with this setting. I find that some programs cannot run
properly like telnet & many help functions are not working. So, if you experience similar
problem, I suggest you,

  1. at step 3 use CODEPAGE=850,950, instead (for GB, CODEPAGE=850,1381)
  2. before using any application for viewing Chinese, use the command CHCP 950, like
      this
      - open a OS/2 command window
      - type CHCP 950 (for GB, CHCP 1381)
      - type CE

If you set the config.sys in this way, You can use CE950.CMD (for GB CE1381.CMD) to run Chinese Editor.
You may also create a similar command file for other application."

"How to install the Chinese Editor?"
"Just make a directory and put all the stuff in it."

"How to use the function keys in this Chinese Editor?"
"Well, there are just a few function keys.

  1. ctrl-alt for switching between the main window (english input, delete, ...) and
      the Chinese input panel,
  2. ctrl-shft for changing input method,
  3. '<', '>' & space for scrolling among the repeated codes,
  4. ',' button to activate the Chinese punctuation panel &
  5. '' button for configuration"

"Which input methods are available in the Chinese Editor?"
"Chengjei, Quick, HongKong pinyin and some others (available separately) are available
for Big5. Only pinyin for GB."

"Can I make the input method for the Chinese Editor by myself?"
"Yes, please refer to inputdiy.html for details."

"I find that the print function is available in this version. You make it yourself?"
"No. The print function needs a program PRTF.EXE which I d/l from Hobbes. Please
read PRTF.DOC for details."

"The most important thing, how much is the Chinese Editor?"
"I don't want to chagre for it as it's just a simple application which everyone can write the
program even in a better way. But I don't want to benifit the warped users only, so the
user's supposed to donate to a charity organization, better to be a world wide one. Scan
and send the recipt to me via email, the user will be informed for any further information."
"The last question, as you have the Chinese Editor, how come you don't type this readme in Chinese?"
"...."
